About the Church
What is The Singularity Church of the Toad and Breathwork?
The Singularity Church of the Toad and Breathwork is a sincerely held religious organization that uses plant medicines and sacred substances as sacraments in ceremony. We are not a clinic, a retreat center, or a recreational service. Our work is rooted in lineage-based traditions and conducted with rigorous safety protocols and integration support.
Is this legal?
We operate as a religious organization under protections afforded by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). The legal landscape around entheogenic medicines is evolving rapidly. We recommend consulting with a legal advisor if you have specific concerns about your jurisdiction. We do not provide legal advice.
Where are ceremonies held?
Ceremonies are held at private, carefully prepared locations. Specific location details are shared with accepted participants after the screening process is complete. We do not publish location information publicly.
How large are the ceremony groups?
We keep groups small — never more than six participants. Most ceremonies are held with two to four participants. This is not a cost-cutting measure; it is a safety and quality requirement. Smaller groups allow for more attentive facilitation and a more intimate, sacred container.
The Medicines
What is Kambo?
Kambo is a secretion from the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog, used for centuries by indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin. It is applied to small burns on the skin and produces an intense purging response lasting 20–40 minutes. It is not a psychedelic — it does not produce visions or altered states of consciousness. Its effects are primarily physical and are followed by a period of profound calm and clarity.
What is Sacred Mushroom ceremony?
Sacred Mushroom ceremony uses psilocybin-containing mushrooms in a structured, intentional sacred setting. The experience typically lasts 4–6 hours and can produce profound shifts in perception, emotion, and sense of self. We hold this medicine as a sacrament — a doorway to direct encounter with the divine and with the deeper truth of who you are.
What is 5-MeO-DMT?
5-MeO-DMT is one of the most potent psychedelic substances known. It is found naturally in the secretion of the Bufo alvarius toad and in several plant species. The experience is brief — typically 15–30 minutes — but often described as a complete dissolution of the sense of self. It is not appropriate for everyone and requires careful screening. We approach this medicine with the deepest reverence.
Do I have to do all three ceremonies?
No. Many participants work with a single medicine. We will discuss what is most appropriate for your situation during the screening conversation. Some people are drawn to a specific medicine; others benefit from guidance on what might serve them best.
Safety & Screening
Who cannot participate?
There are certain health conditions and medications that make ceremony unsafe. These include active psychosis or schizophrenia spectrum conditions, current MAOI use, lithium use, severe cardiovascular conditions (for Kambo), pregnancy or breastfeeding, and active suicidal crisis. See our full Safety & Screening page for the complete list. We screen every applicant personally and will tell you honestly if we cannot safely hold space for you.
I take antidepressants. Can I still participate?
It depends on the medication and the ceremony. Some medications interact with the sacraments in ways that affect safety or the depth of the experience. We evaluate each case individually during the screening conversation and will guide you honestly. We may ask you to consult with your prescribing physician before proceeding.
I carry deep pain or unresolved experiences. Is ceremony right for me?
Sacred ceremony can open doors that nothing else reaches — it is one of the primary reasons people find their way to us. We will discuss your situation honestly during the screening conversation. For some people, we may suggest preparatory work or a gentler entry point before the deeper ceremonies.
What happens if something goes wrong during ceremony?
We maintain monitoring equipment on site and have clear protocols for any difficult moments that arise. Our facilitators are trained to hold space for challenging experiences — which are sometimes the most transformative. We have never had a serious adverse event, and we intend to keep it that way through careful screening and preparation.
The Process
Are ceremony applications open?
Ceremony applications are temporarily paused while our federal religious freedom case proceeds. We will announce when applications reopen to members and donors first. Support the Legal Defense Fund to stay informed.
What is integration and why does it matter?
Integration is the process of making meaning from the ceremony experience and translating insights into lasting change. Without integration, the effects of ceremony can fade or become confusing. Every participant receives a minimum of three integration sessions. We also maintain relationships with licensed therapists trained in psychedelic integration for those who need additional support.
Can I bring a support person?
In some cases, yes. We evaluate support person requests individually. Support persons must also complete a brief screening and agree to our protocols. They participate as witnesses and supporters — not as ceremony participants.
